Pete Alonso Receives Warm Welcome in Return to Citi Field

Pete Alonso made a heartfelt return to Citi Field, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from fans and former teammates alike. The atmosphere was electric as supporters donned Alonso jerseys and chanted his name throughout the game, highlighting his lasting impact on the New York Mets.

Despite his departure to the Baltimore Orioles, Alonso remains a beloved figure in New York. His emotional return was marked by moments of tribute, including a video that played during the game, prompting him to tip his cap to the crowd multiple times.

Alonso's exit from the Mets has sparked ongoing discussions about the team's decision not to pursue him in free agency. While he expressed gratitude for his time with the Mets, he emphasized his happiness with the Orioles, stating he did not take the Mets' decision personally. He acknowledged the positive opportunity presented by Baltimore and the effort they put into bringing him on board.

As Alonso took the field for batting practice, cheers erupted from the stands, and the support continued as he stepped into the batter's box. Although he went 0-for-3 with a walk in the game, the fans' appreciation for him was evident. Francisco Lindor, a current Mets player, reflected on Alonso's significance, noting that while the team has struggled, they recognize the talent they possess.

The Mets, grappling with their own challenges this season, continue to be assessed on their decision to part ways with Alonso, who has become a central figure for the Orioles. With the postseason in sight for both teams, Alonso's journey remains closely watched as he aims for his 300th career home run.
